Securing a work permit in the Czech Republic is a joint responsibility shared by the employer and the prospective international employee. Foreign nationals may only be hired for roles that cannot be filled by candidates from the Czech Republic or other EU member states.

If these conditions are met, the employer can submit a work permit application to the relevant Labor Office in the district where the job will be performed. Importantly, the permit must be approved before the employee enters the country—failure to comply places legal responsibility on the employer.
Required Documents from the Employer:
To obtain a work permit on behalf of a foreign employee, employers must provide:
Valid identification documents
Proof of the employee’s permanent address in their home country
Company registration and identification details
Information about the job role, duration, location, and nature of employment
A formal declaration confirming the intention to hire the foreign worker
Certified copies of academic and professional credentials
Payment of the applicable administrative fee
Additional Regulations to Note:
Non-EU Nationals must register with the Foreign Police or the Ministry of Interior within three working days of their arrival.
EU Citizens and their families are required to report their place of residence within 30 days at either the Foreigners’ Police Inspectorate or a local office of the Ministry of Interior.
EU Blue Card holders and other foreign employees must visit the Ministry of Interior’s Department of Asylum and Migration Policy to provide biometric data within three days of arriving.
Employers hiring individuals with free access to the Czech labor market—such as EU, EEA, or Swiss nationals—must inform the Czech Labor Office of the employment start date.
